People have a lot of reasons for trying out martial arts, but some find it hard to get started. You may be one of them! You may believe you have to get in shape before you start. You might be worried about not knowing what’s expected. You may worry about getting hurt. You’re not alone – we’ve had people start at JMAC for many different reasons – to improve their focus, get in shape, or for self-defense - but almost all of them had concerns before they started.

 

LEARN WHAT TO EXPECT

Those who did start, however, were able to turn their concerns into confidence, their worries into understanding. They watched a class so they learned what to expect. They attended their intro lessons, so they understood how to perform a bow before and after class. They were shown the fundamentals so they could work on their balance, posture, and fundamental movements. In a few months, they were well adjusted to the class routine and well on their way to becoming skilled at their chosen martial art.

QUESTIONS WE'RE OFTEN ASKED...

 

IS IT SAFE?

Yes! While no martial art is completely free of risk, the JMAC method is systematic, controlled, and carefully planned. You’re much less likely to get hurt here, and that assurance will allow you to focus on what you need to learn.

 

DO I HAVE TO GET IN SHAPE FIRST?

No! As long as you don't have any health problems that might make gentle exercise dangerous, you can get started at JMAC. You’ll watch a class, take two intro lessons, and be coached along for your first few months to make sure the training gets you into the kind of condition you need to advance.

 

WILL I GET STUCK IN A MEMBERSHIP?

No! You get to take two free intro lessons with no obligation. Once you complete the intros, you sign up for a one year membership. However, your first 60 days are an opt out period – you can stop for any reason. We are serious about what we do, so we don't want people training here who don't want to be here. If you have any reservations during your 60 day trial period, we encourage you to discuss them with one of our instructors.
